In my previous post, I argued that deep states of meditation can be likened to reaching your own natural frequency. The stillness facilitates a spaciousness that can be felt. I also make the case that moving from presence is an easier way to move through life than constantly reacting from a worried or restless state.
But there is one thing to keep in mind: States of deep meditation can bring up heavy emotions. These emotions enter our awareness when we come to stillness. They’ve been repressed for a long time, and so, need to be released.
Contrary to what I’ve heard from many meditation teachers, it has not been my experience that stuck emotions release quickly when we bring full awareness to it. Often I experience quite the opposite. Indeed, this is why I write about emotional awareness extensively. But whether a difficult emotion releases quickly or not, it’s important to keep in mind that there isn’t anything wrong when this happens. It is part of the process.
