Just as rushing (read that post here) takes one out of the present moment, so to does waiting.

Usually when I zone in on how I feel when I’m waiting, I can detect a general feeling of restlessness. I often think of this low level restless state as unpeace. Sometimes the unpeace might be so subtle that you barely notice it. It might prompt some inattentive behaviour such as mindless web browsing, or thinking about something pleasant in the future or past. Other times the unpeace can be strong, and it can escalate into edginess and irritation. That’s usually when you’re in danger of snapping at a salesperson or some other driver on the road.

But simply noticing these things can usually bring us back to the present moment.
