Nearly a decade ago, I had a dream that stuck with me over the years. It showed me that Presence is the difference. Life is not about where we think we need to go. Or where we think we should be. It’s about being in this moment.
In the dream, I am trying to get to some destination. I take a wrong turn and get lost. I try to get back to the main road and then become more disorientated. I realise that I will be too late for some appointment. I start rushing. The more I rush, the less progress I make. The faster I try to go, the more hopeless I become.
I then suddenly realise that there is nowhere to get to. There are no wrong turns in life. I become present in that moment. Everything changes in the dream. The trees become greener. The sunlight becomes brighter. A stranger offers me a cracker with cheese and caramelised onion. I wake up.
The dream showed me something foundational. There is no destination to get to. Presence is the difference.
