It often seems like so much of our lives are spent rushing. Rushing to get something done, or rushing to get to a particular place. Whether that place is a physical location or some idealised life in our head, we think that being there will make us feel better.
Lately I’ve become more aware of when I’m rushing, and it doesn’t feel good. That’s because rushing takes us out of the present moment. These days, when I find myself rushing, I pause and ask: Where am I trying to get to? After this particular thing that I’m doing, there will be something else to do. There will always be more to do, so you might as well be present for all of it.
